- Carlson played his first two seasons at Austin Peay State in Clarksville, Tenn Helped APSU win the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title as well as two tournament titles
- Played in 41 games, making 21 starts, as a sophomore
- Started all four games of the 2013 NCAA Regional in Bloomington at second base
- Batted .235 with 11 RBI and 18 runs scored
- Appeared in eight games, starting twice, in 2012 before an injury in April ended his season
