Purdue University fields the following 18 intercollegiate athletic sports: baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, football, men’s golf, women’s golf, women’s soccer, softball, men’s swimming & diving, women’s swimming & diving, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, men’s track & field, women’s track & field, women’s volleyball and wrestling. The Boilermakers compete in the Big Ten Conference, the preeminent collection of institutions in the nation.
During the 2023-24 season, Purdue had 11 teams and their student-athletes compete in NCAA Championship events, highlighted by men’s basketball’s exciting run to the Final Four and national title game, powered by the outstanding efforts of back-to-back national player of the year Zach Edey. The 7-4 Canadian swept all six major awards for the second straight year, the first college basketball player to do so since 1973.
Over the last eight years under the leadership of athletics director Mike Bobinski, success across all 18 sport programs has become the expectation and standard at Purdue, with noteworthy accomplishments in academic pursuits. During Bobinski’s first year at Purdue, the Boilermakers earned 185 Academic All-Big Ten recognitions across all sports. In the seven years since, Purdue has averaged 233 honors per year. Since 2016-17, Boilermakers have earned All-America recognitions 83 times, including an outstanding 19 individual All-America honors during the 2019-20 season.
Along with the men’s basketball Final Four trip in 2024, head coach Matt Painter’s squad advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022, and made an Elite Eight appearance in 2022. Purdue Volleyball, led by head coach Dave Shondell, has advanced to two NCAA Regional Semifinals and two Regional Finals since 2019, regularly ranking in the nation’s Top 10. Men’s basketball has also won four Big Ten regular season championships (2017, 2019, 2023, 2024), pushing its conference-leading total to 26 all-time. Women’s track & field claimed a Big Ten outdoor track title in 2017. Women's basketball (2023) and women's soccer (2021) have also made recent NCAA Tournament appearances.

Athletic
All sports will place in the top 25 nationally. Consistent performance at this level will see us competing for Big Ten Conference and NCAA championships.
Student-Athlete Development and Welfare
We will deliver exceptional support services throughout the athletics department to all student-athletes to ensure they are mentally and physically prepared to absorb the skill development necessary to maximize their potential as students, leaders and athletes.
Fiscal
All financial resources will be allocated in pursuit of the vision and managed to ensure that we recognize the expectation to remain self-supporting while providing scholarships, quality academic support services, competitive operating budgets, and comprehensive facilities. Marketing and development plans will be designed and executed to generate revenue.
Equity and Integrity
To promote an atmosphere that upholds and embraces inclusiveness among all constituencies, we will provide champion-caliber participation opportunities that recognize and reinforce gender and ethnic equality for all coaches, staff and student-athletes.
