Tim McElroy was a three-year letterwinner for the Boilermakers from 2013-15, serving as a key southpaw in the bullpen all three years. After suffering a shoulder injury, he opted to take on an undergraduate assistant role with the coaching staff during what would have been his senior season. McElroy ranks 12th in program history with 62 career appearances on the mound. He started the rubber game at Southern Illinois in March 2014. His 25 appearances in 2014 ranked 13th in a season in program history and eighth in the Big Ten through the end of the 2014 regular season. He made 13 of those 25 appearances in Big Ten play. McElroy (21) would have established a Purdue freshman record for appearances in 2013 if not for teammate Mike Lutz (25). He did become just the the third freshman in program history to make 20 appearances. As a junior, he came up just one out shy of closing out the series-opening win at Oklahoma in 2015, working 3 1/3 innings of two-run ball while keeping OU of the scoreboard until the ninth.
