Gibbs pitched in 16 games, all in relief... earned wins in both games of the thrilling doubleheader sweep of Sam Houston State, working a combined three innings of one-relief that day while retiring seven of the nine batters he faced... became the first Purdue pitcher since 2006 to earn a victory in consecutive games... struck out the Oklahoma cleanup hitter with the bases loaded to close-out the series-opening win in Norman and earn a save... pitched in Big Ten games against Rutgers, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan and Penn State... allowed only nine of 28 inherited runners to score, good for a team-best 32 percent among regular relievers... limited right-handed hitters to a .182 batting average... surrendered only two extra-base hits and 15 hits total over 18 innings... gave up just two hits, both singles, over his first nine appearances of 2015... worked two innings of one-hit relief in the midweek win at Indiana State, Purdue's first in Terre Haute since 2006... struck out the side against Illinois' 4-5-6 hitters in the eighth inning of the series finale in Champaign... worked an inning and two-thirds of hitless relief in the series-opening win against Penn State in what was his final outing as a Boilermaker... surrendered only 53 hits in 63 innings during his Purdue career, good for a 7.57 hits per nine innings average. Gibbs pitched in 18 games, all in relief... finished the season as the team leader in ERA (2.08) and batting average against (.185)... team's pitcher of the year honoree and Clyde Lyle Award winner as the top non-scholarship performer... posted a streak of 17 consecutive scoreless innings over seven appearances from April 5-25... led the Big Ten with a .163 batting average against in conference play and ranked third with a 1.53 ERA on conference weekends... ranked among the Purdue single-season leaders in ERA (12th) and fewest hits allowed per nine innings (6.43, 8th)... also joined the Purdue single-season leaders in Big Ten play in ERA (7th) and fewest hits per nine (4.91, 1st)... surrendered runs in only six of his 18 appearances despite only making three appearances over the first six weekends... earned his first collegiate victory with three innings of scoreless relief in the 11-inning win at Michigan State, leaving the bases loaded in the ninth inning, inducing an inning-ending double play with two aboard in the 10th and working a 1-2-3 frame in the 11th to close it out... struck out a career-high six over five innings of two-hit relief in the 12-inning thriller with Michigan... surrendered just one hit over 4 2/3 innings of relief in game two of the Penn State series... worked a career-high 5 1/3 innings over two days (the game was suspended due to weather) in the middle game of the Minnesota series... gave up just one hit over 2 1/3 innings in the middle game of the Indiana series... pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief in the finale of the Southern Illinois series... retired all five batters he faced in game two of the Illinois series... limited opposing hitters to a .185 average with runners aboard and a .184 clip with two outs... compiled a 1.31 ERA and .147 batting average against in 20 2/3 innings pitched at home, highlighted by striking out 16 and surrendering just eight hits over 17 innings in the Big Ten series at Alexander Field. Gibbs pitched in five games, all in relief... worked a scoreless ninth inning against Notre Dame in his collegiate debut... retired two of the four batters he faced, including First Team All-Big Ten selection Brandon Eckerle, in his Big Ten debut in the opener of the Michigan State series... worked two innings of relief at Belmont on the spring break trip... pitched an inning and a third of relief in the midweek win against Wabash in his first appearance at Lambert Field... also pitched in the finale of the Morehead State series.
