- Is the son of Larry and Debbie Hoffman
- Has one brother, Ryan, and one sister, Lauren
- Ryan attends Purdue and Lauren plays basketball at Augustana
- Sam joins a long list of family members who attended Purdue including his dad, brother, five cousins, and one uncle
- Father was a member of the All-American Marching Band
- Enjoys playing basketball, biking, water skiing, and hanging out with friends in his free time
