BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Sophomore Dylan Burau enjoyed another time drop and eclipsed Purdue's program record in the 200 backstroke for the second Saturday in a row, lowering the benchmark to 1:41.49 at IU's NCAA Last Chance meet.
Burau shaved .04 hundredths of a second off the NCAA provisional qualifying time (1:41.53) that earned him a spot in the A final of the event at the Big Ten Championships last week. He has now lowered the Purdue record by .44 hundredths this month, eclipsing Joe Young's benchmark from the 2019 Big Ten Championships in the process.
Cooper Callahan, Brady Samuels, Andrew Witty, Charlie King and Idris Muhammad also competed for the Boilermakers at the two-day time trials meet. Callahan posted lifetime bests in the 200 (1:38.33) and 500 freestyle (4:31.48).
Men's swimming qualifiers for the NCAA Championships will be announced Wednesday at noon ET. Samuels is the Boilermakers' top candidate – currently ranking 31st nationally in the 100 back (45.57). Should he qualify, he'll also have an opportunity to compete in his B cut events (50 & 100 free, 100 fly) at NCAAs.
