#21 Indiana 79, #1 Purdue 74 (Postgame Notes)
  • No. 1 Purdue fell to 22-2 overall and 11-2 in the Big Ten Conference with a 79-74 setback to No. 21 Indiana. The loss snapped a 9-game winning streak, which was the fourth-longest streak in the country.
  • Purdue is now 22-2 for the third time in school history and the second time in the last six years (2023, 2018, 1988).
  • The loss snapped a seven-game win streak in true road games and was the first loss away from Mackey Arena this season (11-1 record).
  • Purdue has won 13 of its last 16 games against Indiana. The Boilermakers are 21-4 in their last 25 games against in-state opponents.
  • The setback was Purdue's first against a nationally-ranked team this season after defeating Gonzaga, Duke and Ohio State previously.
  • Indiana's 79 points were the most scored by an opponent this season. Purdue also trailed 50-35 at halftime, but held the Hoosiers to 29 second-half points, but couldn't get over the hump.
  • Purdue committed 16 turnovers, the second-highest total of the season, and went just 10-of-17 from the free throw line, also the second-lowest percentage of the season.
  • Purdue outrebounded Indiana 38-22, its highest rebound margin against Indiana in the Matt Painter era. Purdue's +16 margin was its largest margin in a loss under Painter.
  • Purdue remains the only power-conference team with two or fewer losses, and one of three schools overall (Florida Atlantic, Houston).
  • The Boilermakers moved to No. 1 nationally in KenPom Offensive Efficiency, scoring 1.18 points per possession for the game. In the second half, Purdue scored 1.35 points per possession.
  • Zach Edey cemented his National Player of the Year campaign with a 33-point, 18-rebound, 3-block, 2-assist effort, coming in just 32 minutes. He went 15-of-19 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
  • Edey recorded his sixth 30-10 game of the season, the most for a Purdue player since Glenn Robinson had 10 during the 1993-94 season. His six 30-10 games are tied for the second most for a major-college player in the last 15 years (7 by Marvin Bagley in 2017-18). His three 30-15 games are the third most for any player in the last 15 years (6 – Mike Daum in 2018-19; 4 – Marvin Bagley in 2017-18).
  • His 19 double-doubles lead the country and now only trail Caleb Swanigan's 28 double-doubles in school history.
  • Edey has had five games of at least 24 points and 16 rebounds, good for the second most in the last 15 years (Mike Daum – 7). He is tied with DeAndre Ayton and Oscar Tshiebwe in that category.
  • Edey increased his KenPom Player of the Year to 0.752 points over Kansas' Jalen Wilson. His KenPom total is the third-best total of the KenPom era (Frank Kaminsky, Russ Smith).
  • Edey scored his 500th point of the season, the first major-college player to reach 500 points this season. He also grabbed his 700th career rebound in the loss.
  • Edey is now averaging 22.4 points, 13.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks on the season, shooting 62.7 percent from the field. In Big Ten play, he is averaging 22.7 points and 13.8 rebounds per game.
  • Fletcher Loyer scored 12 points with two assists and two rebounds. He now needs two points to become the 14th freshman in school history with 300 points.
  • Braden Smith had six assists and is now the third freshman in Purdue history with 200 points, 100 rebounds and 100 assists in the same season.
  • David Jenkins Jr., went 2-of-3 from long range and is now 8-of-11 from 3-point range in the last four games.
