ANN ARBOR, Mich. Brady Samuels' thrilling victory vs. a former teammate in the 100 freestyle and four other event wins by Boilermakers highlighted Purdue men's swimming & diving's dual meet at No. 16 Michigan on Friday.

The Wolverines were victorious in the team scoring 184.5-113.5.

Skyler Younkin and Liam Walker finished 1-2 in the 200 butterfly for the Boilermakers. Nick Sherman rallied to win the 200 free with an impressive back half of the race. Coleman Modglin was victorious in the 100 breaststroke before being out touched by 0.15 hundredths in the 200 to deny him the breaststroke sweep. Sam Bennett started and finished strong to win the 3-meter diving competition, with the sophomore claiming his first career victory in a Big Ten dual.

But it was Samuels' win in the 100 free that really fired up Purdue's portion of the deck. The sophomore out touched former relay mate and Purdue alumnus Nikola Aćin, the program's record holder in the event. Aćin opted to move on to Michigan as a grad transfer this past summer, utilizing his additional fifth year of eligibility. Racing next to each other in lanes 4 and 5, Samuels essentially won the event with a split of 20.81 on the opening 50, holding on to out touch the Olympian by 0.11 hundredths (44.27 to 44.38).

Last season, Samuels and Aćin teamed up with Keelan Hart and Sherman on Purdue's record-breaking 400 free relay team. The quartet won bronze at the Big Ten Championships and earned All-America honors at NCAAs. Samuels, Sherman and Aćin were also bronze medalists in the 200 free relay.

Younkin (1:48.88) and Sherman (1:37.87) won their events with Purdue season-best times. With Walker taking second in the 200 fly, Younkin bested Michigan's top finisher in the event by nearly two seconds (1.98).

Sherman was in fifth place at the midpoint of the 200 free but turned on the jets to the tune of a 49.11 split over the final 100 yards. His 50 splits of 24.80 and 24.31 were the only sub-25 second showings in the entire back half of the race.

Busing back to Purdue from A2...A big thank you to all the parents, formers swimmers, former swimmer's parents, recruits and family friends who came out to cheer @PurdueMSwimDive this afternoon, special indeed! #PurdueInviteNext #WayToCompeteMen

Modglin won the 100 breast with a time of 55.09 for his third event victory of the season. Samuels earned his fourth win and Younkin posted his second.

Bennett's forward 3 ½ in round 5 on 3-meter was the key dive of his list. It produced a score of 68.20 and was a big reason he won by 1.30 points with a list total of 332.80.

The Boilermakers opened the meet with a team season-best time of 1:28.37 in the 200 medley relay. That quartet was Idris Muhammad, Andrew Witty, Samuels and Sherman. Hart took Witty's spot alongside the same trio on the 400 free relay and the group accounted for Purdue's second-best time (2:58.23) of the young season.

Individually, Griffin Poulsen (9:39.19 in 1000 free) and Blake Ratliff (4:06.07 in 400 IM) registered individual season bests while being Purdue's top finishers in a distance event.

The Boilermakers now begin to gear up for the three-day, six-session Purdue Invitational. The midseason showcase is set for Nov. 16 to 18 at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.
