WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Nick Sherman eclipsed his own record in the 200 individual medley in the prelims and later registered the first event victory of his decorated career at the Purdue Invitational, highlighting Wednesday's day 1 action for Purdue swimming & diving at the midseason showcase.
The Boilermakers were also victorious in all three events in the dive well. Jordan Rzepka repeated as the 1-meter winner at the Purdue Invite, recording his seventh event victory of the season. The sophomore posted a 400-point list, teaming with Sam Bennett for a 1-2 finish while winning the event by 62 points.
Sophie McAfee led the way on the women's side, scoring a 24-point win on 3-meter via a team season-best list of 335.45. She teamed with Daryn Wright and Maggie Merriman for a Purdue victory in the women's team diving event, which made its debut at the Purdue Invitational. Each diver executed two dives and all three boards were featured in the event. Individually, Wright claimed bronze on 3-meter.
Sherman impressed in the 200 IM prelims with a time of 1:42.90, clipping 0.52 seconds off his program record from the 2022 Big Ten Championships. It marked the third time he has broken the record overall and now stands as the first Boilermaker to go sub-1:43 in the event. In the final, the All-American rallied for the victory while racing in his seventh career A final at the Purdue Invite.
Idris Muhammad moved into fourth place in program history in the 50 freestyle with a time of 19.50 in the prelims. He and classmate Brady Samuels were seeded 2-3 in the A final but it was Cal Baptist's Remi Fabiani who improved on his top-seeded qualifying time (19.44) to win the event. Samuels claimed silver in the 50 free at the Purdue Invite for the second year in a row, dropping time from the prelims to finish in 19.58. Muhammad placed fourth.
Maggie Love represented the Purdue women in the A final of the 200 IM. Classmate Hannah Hill won the B final of the 50 free with a team season-best time of 22.84. Love also broke 23 seconds (22.96) on the opening leg of the 200 free relay, teaming with Kendra Bowen, Kendal Schreder and Hill for the 10th-fastest time in team history (1:31.19).

Seniors Michael Juengel and Kellan Hart teamed up to give the Boilermakers winners of the B and C finals of the 50 free. Juengel also joined Samuels and Sherman on both of Wednesday's top relay teams. Purdue posted its fifth-fastest times in team history in both the 200 free (1:17.35) and 400 medley relays (3:08.92).
