WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A sweep of the freestyle sprints by Olympian Nikola Aćin and six individual event victories by freshmen highlighted Purdue swimming & diving's season-opening meet, which featured a men's dual vs. Minnesota and a women's intrasquad meet.

The Purdue men won four events and finished 1-2-3 in both freestyle sprints, but came up short 178.5-121.5 in the team scoring vs. the Gophers. On the women's side, the Gold Team and the Black Team each won seven events but it was Gold that emerged victorious 124-112.

Freshman Maggie Love was victorious in all three of her individual events – sweeping the backstroke events and also winning the 100 individual medley – after anchoring her 200 medley relay team to victory in the first race of the night.

Brady Samuels also impressed in his collegiate debut. He won the 100 butterfly, contributed to a victory in the 400 free relay and finished second to Aćin in the 50 free.

Aćin swept the freestyle sprints with times of 20.17 and 44.46. He later anchored the Boilermakers' 400 free relay team to victory, teaming up with Keelan Hart, Idris Muhammad and Samuels on the relay winner.

Freshmen Sophie McAfee (1-meter diving) and Teagen Moon (50 fly) also won events for the Gold Team. McAfee and the divers enjoyed an opportunity to race in the meet-ending 200 free relay, teaming with Jenna Sonnenberg and swimmers Jade Knueppel and Kendra Bowen to win the event and clinch the team victory for Gold.

Masy Folcik swept the breaststroke events and helped her team with the 200 medley relay. Rachel Young was victorious in the 100 and 150 free for the Gold Team.

Kali Sayovitz (200 kickboard), Lindsay Turner (150 fly), Maycey Vieta (3-meter diving) and Knueppel (50 free) also won individual events in the women's intrasquad.

The Boilermakers compete again Saturday when they host 12 universities from around the state for the annual Indiana Intercollegiates meet. Action begins at noon ET.
