WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Members of the Purdue women's cross country team placed fourth, fifth and sixth to finish second to Arizona in a four-team meet today on the Ackerman Hill Golf Course.

Arizona won by taking the first two spots, as well as seventh, eighth and ninth in the 6,000-meter run.

Purdue also claimed 10th and 18th to finish with a 43-point total. Arizona finished with 27 points.

Iowa took third in the race with a total of 63 points and a third-place finish by Sarah Arens. DePaul placed fourth with 112 points.

Senior Ann Stechschulte was the top finisher for the Boilermakers at fourth, with a time of 22:26.60. Next was sophomore Teresa Kamleiter with a time 22:35.50 for fifth place. Sophomore Jessie Wilder finished sixth for Purdue, with a time of 22:49.40.

Coach Ben Paolillo praised the performance of the women, who pushed Arizona to the end.

"Arizona is a good team, and we gave them a run for their money," said Paolillo, adding that junior Heather Hartshorne was running 10th or 11th when she fell 300 meters short of the start/finish line. A victim of the heat and humidity, Hartshorne was unable to finish the race but suffered no lasting injury.

The women next run at the Indiana Intercollegiates at Bloomington on Friday, Sept. 15 at 4:45 p.m.
