1997-98 Review
One of the team's best performances of the season came at the Sun Devil Classic in Phoenix, Ariz. In the first Sun Devil Classic, Purdue finished in second place out of four teams. Marisa Watts, Nikki Lively and Sarah Dougall all had strong performances to lead Purdue.
In the second Sun Devil Classic, Purdue edged out Arizona State to win the invitational. Lively again provided the spark by finishing first in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Dougall and fellow freshman Missy Bromley also had good performances as Purdue defeated the Sun Devils.
Jan. 17 was senior day at Lambert Pool. Angie Troester, Michele Labrie, Heather Murry, Kate Leinberger and Marisa Watts were honored before the meet against Michigan State. Watts and freshman Gyongyver Lakos each contributed three first-place finishes as Purdue rolled to a 165-135 victory over its Big Ten rival. Murry added a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay, while Leinberger and Labrie added second- and fourth-place finishes, respectively.
The freshman class provided some of the season's brightest moments. Sarah Dougall, Gyongyver Lakos, Kara Hajek and Missy Bromley all had promising seasons that were marked by continued improvement and strong performances at Big Ten's. Likewise, Brianna Reina, Jen Alden and Malaika Homo had some of the better individual performances in their events.
