WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The temporary closing of a portion of Stadium Avenue will mean detours for fans coming to campus for Boilermaker track and field, softball and baseball.
Stadium Avenue, from Intramural Drive west to David Ross Road, will close April 3. Beginning Monday, Stadium Avenue from Ross Road to the service drive east of Lambert Field was closed. Three playing venues will be affected by the closings.
Access to Lambert Field, the Varsity Softball Complex, and Rankin Track and Field will be limited to a drive north of the Recreational Sports Center on Intramural Drive, just west of Wiley Residence Hall. After entering the drive from Intramural, drivers should continue west along the southern edge of the track complex and turn right onto the service drive that connects the Recreational Sports Center parking lot and Stadium Avenue. Parking for events at Rankin, Lambert and the softball complex will be located between Lambert Field and Stadium.
The closing of the Ross Road-to-Intramural Drive section of Stadium Avenue - and subsequent closing of Stadium eastward to North University Street - is related to the Northwest Chiller Plant project. The chiller plant, located southwest of Lambert Field, will supply chilled water for air conditioning in remodeled residence halls, the planned engineering building at the corner of Northwestern and Stadium avenues, and other buildings on the north academic and athletics campus. Although the plant is substantially completed, water lines must be installed and connected along Stadium Avenue. The project is expected to be completed by late September.
Fans approaching from the west should follow McCormick Road to Third Street and proceed east to Intramural. After turning left on Intramural, the access drive will be the first roadway on the left. Fans approaching from the north or east should follow Northwestern Avenue to Stadium and Stadium to Russell Street. Follow Russell west to Intramural and north to the access drive.
