Thirty-Nine Boilermakers Named Academic All-Big Ten Brees recognized for excellence on the field and in the classroom

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - As the fall term of the 2000-01 school year comes to a close, the Big Ten recognizes a total of 521 fall student-athletes who have been named to the academic all-conference Team.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, an athlete must be a letterwinner in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a career grade-point average of 3.0 or better.

The total number of honorees is 42 more than last year. Thirty-nine Boilermakers are listed, and two received special recognition.

Sophomore Teresa Kamleiter was one of eight Big Ten student-athletes with an umblemished 4.0 GPA. Senior Drew Brees, the conference Offensive Player of the Year, led the Boilermakers to their first Big Ten Championship since 1967 and carries a 3.42 GPA in industrial management. The football and women's cross country teams top Purdue's success with 11 players each.
