Teague And Lilley Receive Honor From Gimlets Boilermakers named 2002-03 freshmen of the year by student spirit group

Nov. 8, 2003

Sophomore guard David Teague and sophomore shortstop Tricia Lilley picked up more accolades from their rookie seasons when the two were announced as the Gimlet Honorary's 2002-03 Purdue Freshmen Athletes of the Year on Saturday.

Teague, a graduate of Indianapolis' Pike High School, was a part-time starter for the men's basketball team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year. The 6-foot-5 guard appeared in all 30 games and set a freshman record with 35 three-point field goals en route to averaging 5.7 points per game last season.

Lilley, a product of Hoover High School in North Canton, Ohio, started 57 games last spring as Purdue's shortstop. She posted a .328 batting average to rank second-best on the team, while chalking up 10 home runs, 48 runs scored and 35 RBI.

The Gimlet Leadership Honorary, a student spirit organization perhaps best known for its involvement with the Victory Bell at Purdue football games, selects the freshmen of the year from a pool of candidates nominated by the Boilermaker head coaches.
