Streaming Video of Purdue Home Games on The Web Complete replay or highlights available after games at Ross-Ade

Sept. 7, 2000

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Boilermaker fans near and far can watch replays of home football games and highlights on the World Wide Web.

Streaming video of coverage seen on the Jumbotron in Ross-Ade Stadium will be available the day after all home games this year. Computer users need a Windows Media Player to view and listen to the videos. The player can be downloaded from the official athletics Web site.

Video highlights without sound will be available a few hours after the conclusion of each game, according to Jay Cooperider, director of communications for the Purdue Athletic Department. The complete replay of the game, with "natural" sounds of the Ross-Ade crowd, the All-American Marching Band and the public-address announcer will be available the next day.

"At this point, the game replay is on the Web site at noon the day after games, and it remains there all week," Cooperider says. "Contractual obligations with conference and television networks might push that back a few hours."

The video is optimized for a dial-up modem, so the picture gets fuzzy at times. If demand is great enough, a version for cable modem and digital subscriber line users will be made available.

Cooperider says the offering of digitized video is being done on a trial basis.

"We know from talking with fans that the farther they are from campus, the more they want this kind of service," he says. "But we want to measure traffic on our Web site that can be traced to Boilermaker fans accessing the site to get to the streaming video."

To access the streaming video, direct your browser to www.purduesports.com, click on the link for audio-video and then click on the highlights or complete game link.
