Was an NCAA qualifier in his first year of collegiate wrestling and finished second in the Big Ten Championships ... posted a season record of 20-11 at 141 pounds and was 2-6 in Big Ten matches ... opened his varsity career with a 6-0 winning streak ... captured the Harris Auto Center Open title in Ashland, Ohio (11/23) ... went 4-2 at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, including a 4:31 fall over UC-Davis[apos] Jeff Bristol (12/5-6) ... scored a decisive victory over Navy[apos]s Nate Gulosh (then ranked 25th) 10-2 in the Lone Star Duals (1/3-4) ... opened the Big Ten regular season with a fall at the 3:40 mark over Northwestern[apos]s Paul Augle (1/23) ... went into the Big Ten Tournament as an unseeded wrestler and posted three consecutive wins against Michigan State[apos]s Andy Simmons (seeded second), Penn State[apos]s DeWitt Driscoll (seeded seventh), and Illinois[apos] Michael Martin (seeded sixth) to reach the championship match (3/6-7) ... went 0-2 in NCAA action (3/18-20).
2002-2003 (FRESHMAN, 141)
Posted an 18-15 record in his initial season as Purdue[apos]s No. 1 141-pounder ... claimed first place at the Ashland Open (11/16) ... recorded two falls, a technical fall and a major decision in the tournament ... scored a season-best 17 points twice, first in a 17-2 technical fall against Indianapolis[apos] Tanner Yates (11/16) and then in a 17-5 major decision over Bill English of Lock Haven (11/30) ... took third place at the Orange Bowl Sunshine Open (12/28-29), losing only to former Purdue standout Evan Robinson ... won his first Big Ten match with a 12-3 major decision against Wisconsin[apos]s Tyler Laudon (2/14) ... rebounded from a 7-2 defeat to Michigan State[apos]s Ryan L[apos]Amoreaux (2/21) with a 12-6 decision over L[apos]Amoreaux in the opening round of the Big Ten Championships (3/8-9).
