Kristin Goodwin (nee Paulson) enters her fourth season as Purdue’s assistant women’s golf coach, rejoining the Boilermakers’ staff after one season at North Carolina State. An Iowa State alumna, Goodwin served as a volunteer assistant with the Boilermakers from 2013 to 2016.
In her first season as a full-time member of the Purdue staff, Goodwin helped the Boilermakers to their 22nd straight NCAA Regional appearance, and a variety of statistical accomplishments. The Boilermakers fielded the first team in program history to have five or more players with at least eight rounds of par or better, including a then-freshman record 12 from Inez Wanamarta. As a group the team fielded 49 individual rounds at par or better, 35 of which came in under par, and seven team scores of par or better, including scores at the Big Ten Championships and the NCAA Madison Regional.
Goodwin's second season in West Lafayette exceeded her first, helping the team back to the NCAA Championships and posting the 10th top-10 finish in the last 20 seasons. The team tied for second at the Big Ten Championships behind co-medalist honors from Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri, and placed fourth at the NCAA Norman Regional to secure the national bid. Purdue posted four of the top-10 team single-round scores in program history and set team records for 36 and 54-hole tournaments, while Danielle du Toit carved up the freshman record book with 17 rounds of par or better, four rounds in the 60’s and a 73.64 stroke average.
In her three seasons as a volunteer with the Old Gold & Black, she helped the Boilermakers to two NCAA Championship appearances, three NCAA Regionals and a pair of regular-season tournament crowns. She helped coordinate various tournaments as well as assisted in daily practice, skill instruction and goal setting for players.
In her one season at North Carolina State, Goodwin helped the Wolfpack to its 15th NCAA Regional appearance in 16 seasons and their first tournament victory since 2013, as they topped the Boilermakers’ Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
The Ottumwa, Iowa, native played four seasons for Iowa State, from 2008 to 2012, earning first team Academic All-Big 12 three times and was twice honored with NGCA Academic All-Scholar awards. Goodwin played 129 rounds in her collegiate career, the most in Cyclone program history, and her 77.80 career stroke average ranks ninth all-time at Iowa State.
A two-time champion of the Iowa Women's Amateur in 2010 and 2011, Goodwin broke the tournament scoring mark in 2011 with a 14-under par 202, to win by 10 strokes. She went on to gather some professional experience as well, participating in Stage I of LPGA Qualifying School on two occasions, and has been on the bag for other pros, including Boilermaker standout Laura Gonzalez Escallon, Kim Kaufman and 2016 LPGA rookie Prima Thammaraks.
Goodwin graduated from Iowa State in May 2012, with a materials engineering degree before coming to West Lafayette where she earned her master's degree in materials science engineering.
