Michal Kokta

Michal Kokta is in his second season as an assistant coach. He joined the Boilermakers on Aug. 13, 2014, after spending the last three seasons on staff at his alma mater and national powerhouse, Baylor. Kokta had served as a volunteer assistant coach with his former team since 2011. In 2013 he added the role of strength and conditioning coach early in 2013. During his three seasons, Baylor captured a pair of Big 12 Conference regular season titles and won the Big 12 Championship in 2014. The Bears advanced to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Championships in 2012 and 2013, followed by a quarterfinal appearance in 2014. In addition to his responsibilities with the men's tennis team, Kokta had served as the director of the Baylor Indoor Tennis Clinics since Aug. 2013. Baylor was on top of the NCAA men's tennis world during Kokta's playing days. The Bears won the national championship in 2004, were runners-up in 2005 and semifinalists the next two years. Baylor also dominated the Big 12 Conference, winning the league championship three of the four seasons Kokta played. Individually, he punched a NCAA ticket in both singles and doubles competition with partner Lars Poerschke as a junior in 2006. During his senior campaign in 2007, Kokta was named the ITA South Central Region Senior Player of the Year and Most Outstanding Performer at the Big 12 Championship. Kokta's highest final ITA rankings were No. 22 in singles as a senior and No. 11 in doubles with Poerschke in 2006. Playing alongside Poerschke, the duo holds the record for most team doubles wins (51) and is second for most doubles team wins in a season (25). Additionally, Kokta ranks first in dual match singles wins in a season (28) and second in career doubles winning percentage (.826; 57-12). He owned a 74-18 career singles mark, with the .804 winning percentage ranking fourth and the 74 victories ranking ninth all-time in the Bears' program. In 2005 he tallied 36 singles wins and followed up with 38 in 2006, which rank eighth and fifth. Kokta's 49 dual match singles victories also checks in at No. 9 at Baylor. Kokta's success went beyond the court into the classroom. He was twice named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team, twice earned the team's student-athlete of the year award. As a senior he was named to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Men's At-Large Academic All-America first team A native of Prague, Czech Republic, Kokta graduated Magna Cum Laude with bachelor's degrees in finance and economics in 2007. In 2011 he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and in 2013 he obtained his master's in sports management. Kokta is also a certified National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) specialist.
