  • Kiel competed primarily in the backstroke and IM events, posting new Purdue freshman records in the 100 (48.56) and 200 back (1:43.93) and 200 IM (1:48.23)
  • The freshman IM record had stood since 1994
  • Recorded the team's fastest times of the year in all three events as well as the 400 IM (3:56.63) despite competing in the 400 IM at only three meets
  • His 100 (4th) and 200 back (3rd) and 200 IM (5th) times all ranked among the top five in program history and were NCAA provisional qualifying marks
  • Swam the third leg on the 800 free relay team (6:28.45) at the Big Ten Championships that established a new school record
