Gavin Roberts enters his third year as the strength and conditioning coach for the Purdue men’s basketball team. He came to Purdue prior to the 2018-19 season after spending the last 16 months as an assistant director of sports performance at Western Michigan University.
During his first year at Purdue, he helped Purdue to a 26-10 overall record, a Big Ten regular-season championship and a spot in the Elite Eight. Under his tutelage, Purdue had major gains in the weightroom and the Boilermakers missed just two games to injury.
With a focus on core strength, flexibility and balance, the Boilermakers’ gains were significant in his first year at Purdue.
Roberts was an integral part of the Broncos’ success on the football field, where it played in the 2017 Cotton Bowl after posting a 13-0 regular-season record.
Prior to his time at WMU, he was a sports performance coach at Bommarito’s Performance Systems, where he was the co-director of the NFL Draft Prep program, working with several professional athletes and focusing on linear, lateral and multi-directional movement efficiency.
He spent time at Purdue as an assistant strength and conditioning coach during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years. During his second year at Purdue, he helped Purdue to the NCAA Tournament while implementing a comprehensive individualized program built to develop athletes for the NBA.
Roberts played football at Purdue during the 2008-11 seasons, helping Purdue to a victory in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl following the 2011 season. He earned his degree in health and fitness from Purdue in 2011 and his master’s degree in Technology, Leadership and Innovation in 2015.
Roberts is an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
