WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue's Drew Brees and Stacy Orschell were named the male and female Athletes-of the-Month for September. The award is presented Twin City Dodge and WLFI TV-18.
Brees was honored for leading the Boilermaker football team to their first 4-0 start since 1967. The junior quarterback from Austin, Texas, was instrumental in each victory including a critical two-point conversion run against Notre Dame. He was named Big Ten Offensive Player-of-the-Week for his 405 yards passing and three touchdown performance against Northwestern. Brees passed for 1,315 yards and 10 touchdowns in September, while completing 62 percent of his passes. Brees also passed former Boilermaker great Scott Campbell to move to second on the all-time career passing touchdowns list.
Orschell lead the women's golf team to the title at the Lady Northern Invitational in Madison, Wis. The senior from Connersville, Ind., won her first career individual title, shooting a tournament low one-over-par 217. Her score of 71 in the final round tied a career low for her.
