June 9, 1998

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The long awaited grand opening of the redesigned Kampen Course on the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex will be Saturday, June 27.

The general public can make reservations now for tee times on June 27 to July 5 by calling the Pete Dye Clubhouse at (765) 494-3139. After July 5, advanced tee times can be made only seven days in advance by calling Purdue's new Automated Tee-Time Reservation System at (765) 496-3844. The cost per round, which includes cart, will be $38.50, Monday through Thursday, $48.50 Friday through Sunday. Special Twilight green fees are offered throughout the season. Soft spikes are mandatory. All tee times will be held with a credit card. Cancellations must be called in 24 hours in advance or a charge will occur.

Famed architect Pete Dye's newest creation will definitely be challenging, but with four tee areas on each holes, the course can be enjoyed by golfers with different skill levels. In fact, it's recommended that golfers play the tees according to their handicap. The yardage length by tee area: black (7,333 yards), white (6,777), silver (6,181) and gold (5,205). The course will offer monstrous bunkers; various sized, undulating greens and plenty of water. Nearly 7000 trees were planted this winter, and about 300,000 cubic yards of soil were moved, thus making it very different from old "North Course."
