WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - One student was selected as Purdue Pete for the 2002-03 school year at a tryout on April 9 in Mackey Arena. Sean Brennan, a sophomore (Naperville, Ill.), will begin his sports mascot duties at Purdue University immediately. Brennan was one of five finalists vying for the open position.
Joining Brennan will be returning mascots Jeff Nagle (Angola,Ind.), Charlie Nichols (Delphi, Ind.) and Luke Simons (Shelbyville, Ind.). Purdue Pete has enhanced the atmosphere at athletics contests since 1956. The four also portray Rowdy, Pete's inflatable alter ego who makes appearances at athletics events.
"Sean's interview showed his dedication to the university, and his skit in the finals brought out his humorous side," said Jan Winger, cheer and mascot adviser. "Sean will be a welcome addition to our program. "
Purdue Pete makes approximately 325 appearances each year, including men's and women's athletics events, weddings, alumni functions, hospital visits, parades and school activities.
