Dec. 1, 1999

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Brian Cardinal and Lisa Dolansky have been named the male and female Purdue Athletes-of the-Month for November. The award is presented Twin City Dodge and WLFI TV-18.

Cardinal, a senior from Tolono, Ill. (Unity H.S.), led the basketball team to a 2-1 record in November and the finals of the Maui Invitational. Cardinal led the team in scoring with 29 points and also had nine rebounds in the 96-78 victory against host school Chaminade. In the semifinals, against fifth-ranked Florida, he finished with nine points, 11 rebounds and five assists in the Boilers' 79-68 upset of the Gators. In the championship game against North Carolina he collected 12 points and eight rebounds on the way to earning all-tournament honors.

Dolansky, a freshman swimmer from Rahway, NJ (Union Catholic H.S.), was honored for her outstanding performance in the pool. With seven first-place finishes in the month, the first-year Boilermaker has made an immediate impact for Purdue helping the team to a 5-0 overall record, 3-0 in the Big Ten. Against Miami (Ohio) and Oakland University she was a member of the winning 200 medley and free relay teams. At Ohio State against the Buckeyes and the Iowa Hawkeyes, she touched first in both 100 back and as a member of the 200 free relay. She also played an instrumental role in the Boilermakers' come-from-behind victory against Indiana in Bloomington. Dolansky finished first in the 200 medley relay and the 100 back and swam the third leg of the 200 free relay that narrowly touched out the Hoosier team to steal the victory for Purdue. She also had three second-place and two third- place finishes for the month.
