EVANSTON, Ill. – Nine Boilermakers will wrestle on into the second session at the 2025 Big Ten Wrestling Championships after an eventful Session I on Saturday afternoon.
Session II Schedule:
6 p.m. ET - Consolation Matches, Wrestlebacks (B1G+)
8 p.m. ET - Semifinals (BTN and B1G+)
After earning a first-round bye, No. 1 seed Matt Ramos grabbed headlines with a thrilling sudden-victory pin over Wisconsin's No. 8 Nicolar Rivera.
The undefeated redshirt senior gave up his first takedown all season before bowing up in overtime, sticking the Badger with a pin to advance to the conference semifinals.
Ramos is two wins away from securing Purdue's first Big Ten title in 21 years. He'll face Penn State's No. 4 Luke Lilledahl for the first time ever in Session II with a trip to the final on the line.
No. 6 seed Joey Blaze dominated his first round match with a 13-0 major decision over Illinois' No. 11 Jason Kraisser. It was the sophomore's third career shutout victory.
Blaze then took No. 3 Antrell Taylor (Nebraska) down to the wire, forcing multiple stall calls as the highly-ranked Husker went on the defensive before ultimately escaping with a 4-3 decision win.
The Perrysburg, Ohio, 157-pounder almost secured a match-winning takedown to beat the buzzer, but after a challenge from head coach Tony Ersland, the points were not awarded.
He will continue on in the chase for a bronze medal, facing No. 13 Luke Mechler (Wisconsin) in Session II.
No. 9 seed Greyson Clark earned Purdue's first win of the day with a 16-1 technical fall upset over Indiana's No. 8 Henry Porter. After falling to No. 1 Beau Bartlett (PSU), Clark will keep battling in consolation.
No. 8 Brody Baumann also knocked off Wisconsin's No. 9 Lucas Condon in a convincing 14-7 decision before dropping his bout to No. 1 Levi Haines (PSU).
