GREENVILLE, N.C. – Hits were tough to come by against a preseason All-American as Purdue Baseball was kept off the scoreboard until Logan Sutter's home run in the ninth inning in a 7-1 loss to No. 11 East Carolina on Friday at the Keith LeClair Classic.

A projected Day 1 selection in the 2024 MLB Draft, Trey Yesavage limited the Boilermakers (6-3) to just two hits while striking out 11 over eight scoreless innings. Purdue had two on with one out in the first inning but was unable to capitalize. Yesavage (2-0) went on to retire 10 in a row and 15 of the next 16 batters he faced.

Jordan Morales pitched deep into the game for the second Friday in a row. He was efficient with his pitches throughout his seven-plus innings, throwing 84 on the day. The lefthander retired the first seven batters he faced and registered a trio of 1-2-3 innings total.

A two-out, two-run homer from ECU's Carter Cunningham energized the home crowd in the third inning. The Pirates had opened the scoring moments earlier on a hot shot comebacker off the body of Morales (2-1) that went for an RBI infield single, plating a runner from third.

Morales successfully posted three more zeros as part of his second and third time through the lineup after an opposite-field solo homer in the bottom of the fourth. After a leadoff hit by pitch of the 9-hole batter in the eighth inning, ECU's top of the lineup blew the game open with five consecutive productive plate appearances against the bullpen.

Sutter connected for an opposite-field homer to right field in the top of the ninth, his third long ball and 11th extra-base hit of the season – both team-leading totals. He has hit safely in each of the first nine games of the season.

Camden Gasser walked in two of his four plate appearances vs. Yesavage and has been on base in all seven games he's played for Purdue early this season. Keenan Taylor's single vs. Yesavage in the fourth inning gave the senior a six-game on-base streak. Thomas Green smacked a double down the left field line in the eighth inning, connecting for the first extra-base hit Yesavage had allowed to a righthanded batter this season.

The Boilermakers continue play at the four-team Keith LeClair Classic on Saturday with a matchup vs. Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions defeated Cal State Fullerton 5-1 Friday in the opening game of the tournament. First pitch has been moved back to 1 p.m. ET due to rain. Purdue is the designated home team Saturday.
