Sugiyama Secures Top 10 Finish to Pace Purdue in Puerto Rico

<br /><br />RIO GRANDE, P.R. – Momo Sugiyama finished in eighth place on the individual leaderboard, securing her fifth Top 10 performance as a Boilermaker and leading Purdue Women's Golf at the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic. Following four fall tournaments, Sugiyama began the spring portion of the schedule with her highest finish of the 2023-24 season.

RIO GRANDE, P.R.Momo Sugiyama finished in eighth place on the individual leaderboard, securing her fifth Top 10 performance as a Boilermaker and leading Purdue Women's Golf at the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic. Following four fall tournaments, Sugiyama began the spring portion of the schedule with her highest finish of the 2023-24 season.
 
Sugiyama's tournament featured an opening round 67 (-5) for a career best, and she ended the event with a team-low 71 (-1) during Tuesday's final round. Her 5-under 211 (67-73-71) was also a 54-hole career low and the second-best score in relation to par this season by a Boilermaker. The Australian played every type of hole at par-or-better throughout the week; she was 3-under on the par 5s, 2-under on the par 4s and even on the par 3s. Sugiyama made 42 pars over 54 holes to rank second in the 90-player field.
 
As a team, No. 22 Purdue placed 10th (+16) on a leaderboard that featured six Top 25 teams, finishing two strokes ahead of No. 9 Ole Miss (+18). No. 3 Arkansas (-10) used a final round 276 (-12) to go from fourth to first and leapfrog No. 11 LSU (-9) for a one-shot victory.  Furman's Anna Morgan (-10) earned medalist honors, helping the Paladins place 11th (+17).
 
Natasha Kiel was the second Boilermaker on the leaderboard, tying for 42nd (+6). During her final round, Kiel recorded her team-best second eagle of the season with a deuce on the par-4 12th. Jocelyn Bruch was one stroke back of Kiel at 7-over for the tournament, carding a 77 (+5) after consecutive rounds of 73 (+1).
 
Ashley Kozlowski fired a 73 on Tuesday, her best round at Grand Reserve Golf Club. Lana Malek contributed to the team's final round score of 295 (+7), shooting 76 (+4) to wrap up her first tournament in the Purdue lineup. The freshman's day was highlighted by consecutive birdies on the back nine.  
 
After a week off, the Boilermakers return to action in Sarasota, Florida for the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational (Feb. 18-19).
