WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue swimming & diving teams' penultimate meet of the regular season doubles as only the second road dual of the campaign as the Boilermakers visit Bloomington for the annual rivalry dual with Indiana.
The 16-event co-ed dual is slated to begin at 10 a.m. and feature the default event lineup. However, as it is tradition for IU-Purdue, platform diving will be scored in place of 3-meter, which will be contested as an exhibition event.
The meet will be streamed live on the Big Ten Network's B1G+ website and app, as will be the case for next weekend's two-day home meet and all sessions of the Big Ten Championships. Fans that sign up for a B1G+ monthly subscription this weekend would be covered through the end of the women's championships next month (for the cost of one month). B1G+ is also offered complimentary to viewers connected to the Internet network of any Big Ten campus.
The Purdue women put their flawless 6-0 dual meet mark on the line against an IU team that is 5-0 in duals. Both teams have wins against Missouri. The Boilermakers' six-dual win streak began with a victory at Notre Dame as part of a season-opening road trip to South Bend.
Indiana and Purdue both currently have a group of divers in the Middle East preparing for the World Aquatics Championships. The Boilermakers are traveling six divers – three men, three women – to Bloomington this weekend. Daryn Wright (USA), Maycey Vieta (Puerto Rico), Jaye Patrick (Latvia), alum Brandon Loschiavo (USA) and National Letter of Intent signee Tyler Wills (USA) are joined by assistant coach David Boudia (USA assistant) in Qatar.
The Indiana Senior State Championships in July 2022 and NCAA Zone C Diving Championships in March 2023 mark Purdue's last two notable meets in Bloomington since the last rivalry dual at the CBAC in January 2022. Among the Boilermaker divers competing this weekend, Jordan Rzepka and McAfee both qualified for the NCAA Championships in Bloomington a year ago. They did so in all three events.
Maggie Love (200 IM), Kate Beavon (1000 free) and Wright (platform) were all victorious for the Boilermakers in last year's Senior Day meet vs. IU. Hannah Hill's victory in the 50 freestyle as a freshman was a highlight of the 2022 dual in Bloomington.
Love has an individual event win in every meet this season. McAfee has swept the springboard diving events in three straight NCAA meets dating back to the first weekend of November. Brady Samuels has swept the freestyle sprints at the Boilermakers' ast two meets – the Purdue Invitational in November and the dual with Missouri two weeks ago.
A host of active Purdue swimmers raced at the 2022 Indiana Senior State Championships (long course) in Bloomington. Aaron Frollo, Andrew Swenson and Jude Wenker helped Boilermaker Aquatics sweep the 200-meter freestyle and 200-meter medley relays. Frollo (bronze in 800 free and 1500 free) and Swenson (bronze in 200 back) were also individual medalists. On the women's side, Love (silver in 100 breast), Abby Harter (bronze in 200 back) and Abby Jahns (bronze in 200 fly and 800 free) were all individual medalists.
Swenson is a native of nearby Bedford and Purdue head coach Alex Jerden's ties to Bloomington High School North run deep.
