WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue football team dropped a 41-7 decision to No. 3 Ohio State on a rainy Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium.
Running back Devin Mockobee carried the load on the ground, eclipsing 100 yards for the first time this season and the fifth time of his career. He finished with 110 yards on 18 carries (6.1 average), the most yards Ohio State has allowed to a running back this season, as Purdue totaled 123 yards rushing.
Quarterback Hudson Card threw for 126 yards and one touchdown on 13-of-32 passing. Wide receiver Mershawn Rice led the way on the receiving end with three catches for 50 yards, his first receptions of the season.
Yanni Karlaftis and Dillon Thieneman tied for the team lead with nine tackles apiece. Karlaftis and Kydran Jenkins each notched their first fumble recoveries of the season.
The first of the Boilermakers' two takeaways was caused by Markevious Brown, who jarred the ball loose from Ohio State quarterback Devin Brown at the goal line to stop a Buckeye drive in the second quarter. Nic Scourton later stripped quarterback Kyle McCord in the third quarter to set up Purdue's lone scoring drive of the game.
The Boilermakers got on the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter when Card hit Deion Burks across the middle for a six-yard touchdown pass, his fifth scoring reception of the season.
Wide receivers Elijah Canion and Jaron Tibbs recorded their first Purdue receptions, and quarterback Bennett Meredith logged his first collegiate completion on an eight-yard pass to Tibbs.
McCord finished with 276 yards and three scores on 16-of-28 passing. Marvin Harrison Jr. led the Buckeyes with 105 yards on six receptions, one for a touchdown. Running back Dallan Hayden paced Ohio State's backfield with 76 yards on 11 carries (6.9 avg.) and one touchdown.
