BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – On a day in which Purdue baseball matched its season low with just three hits, Indiana's three consecutive multi-run innings early in the game proved lethal in a 10-2 loss Sunday.

The Boilermakers (23-27, 10-11 B1G) were swept in a three-game Big Ten series for the first time since April 2022 at Illinois. They've lost a season-high four consecutive games. However, losses by Illinois (12-12 B1G) and Michigan State (10-11) Sunday allowed Purdue to maintain control of its own destiny in the Big Ten Tournament chase. Purdue will need to sweep Nebraska (13-8 B1G) or win more games than MSU next weekend to qualify for the eight-team tournament the week of May 23-28 in Omaha.

The Hoosiers (38-14, 15-6 B1G) remained tied with Maryland atop the Big Ten standings and play at Michigan State next weekend. Twenty-five of their wins this season have come at Bart Kaufman Field, where the Boilermakers are now 2-17 since the stadium opened in 2013.

Purdue conceded a double-figure run total in three consecutive games for the first time since May 2022 vs. Maryland and Rutgers. Aaron Suval gave the Boilermakers four zeros over five innings of three-hit ball, striking out a season-high five in his longest outing of the year. The four zeros matched the number Purdue had over the first two games of the series combined.

Connor Caskenette's two-out, two-run single accounted for the Boilermakers' runs. The timely hit made it a one-run game at 3-2 in the third inning. But Indiana sent eight men to the plate in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four times.

Purdue has given up four or more runs in an inning 11 times since April 30, with it happening at least once in seven of the last eight games. The Boilermakers have also not held a lead over the first three innings of a game since April 30 and have not held the lead at any point during their current four-game losing streak.

Couper Cornblum and Jake Parr accounted for Purdue's four walks, extending their on-base streaks. However, both saw their hit streaks in Big Ten play – Parr 15 games, Cornblum nine games – come to an end.

NOTABLE STREAKS EXTENDED SUNDAY
Jake Parr – 24-game on-base streak; 16-game on-base streak in Big Ten play
Couper Cornblum – 17-game on-base streak; 10-game on-base streak in Big Ten play

Paul Toetz started his 100th consecutive game Sunday, becoming the first Boilermaker to accomplish the feat since Skyler Hunter from 2017 to 2019.

The final weekend of the regular season features a Thursday to Saturday schedule. Purdue is slated to host Nebraska for the first time since March 2016. Thursday's series opener is set for 6 p.m. ET.
