MINNEAPOLIS – After being limited to three runs over the first two games of the series, Minnesota roared out of the gate Sunday with a six-run first inning and rode the early lead to a 9-3 victory that denied Purdue baseball a series sweep.

Jake Parr led off the fourth inning with his second home run of the season and second career at Siebert Field. Jo Stevens doubled twice on his birthday, extending his on-base streak to 12 consecutive games.

Mike Bolton Jr. reached base safely twice and stole second twice, registering his 60th career steal in the process. He became just the fourth player in program history to reach the benchmark. Bolton has 15 steals this season and is now just nine away from Purdue's all-time record (70).

Davis Pratt worked 4 2/3 innings of two-hit relief in his longest appearance of the season. It was a successful long relief outing but he was pressed into duty early with two outs in the first inning after Minnesota leadoff man Brett Bateman delivered a two-run double, his second hit of the frame.

The Gophers (8-22, 3-3 B1G) opened the game with four consecutive hits and seven hits their first time through the lineup. Minnesota had just 12 hits over the first two games of the series. Ike Mezzenga delivered the first big hit of the long rally, clearing the bases with a three-run double off the left field wall.

Couper Cornblum singled home Stevens in the seventh inning. Connor Caskenette doubled and walked, extending his on-base streak to nine consecutive games.

For the second day in a row, a Purdue reliever induced an inning-ending double play vs. the first batter he faced. Cal Lambert accomplished the feat Sunday, rolling up a 4-6-3 twin killing to end the bottom of the sixth.

The Boilermakers (14-16, 5-4 B1G) return to action Tuesday when they open a six-game homestand with a midweek rematch vs. Indiana State. First pitch at Alexander Field is set for 6 p.m. ET.
