KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Purdue's Sophie McAfee enjoyed a 35-point improvement on her list score across the 3-meter diving prelim and consolation final, finishing top 10 in the event for her first career All-America honor at the NCAA Championships.

McAfee is an honorable mention All-American for her runner-up finish in the consolation final, which is equivalent to 10th place overall among a field of 49 divers. Freshman Daryn Wright placed 22nd in her debut at NCAAs.

Purdue has had at least one women's diver earn All-America honors at the NCAA Championships in 18 of the last 19 years the meet has been held, a run that dates back to 2004.

McAfee and Wright compete again Saturday in platform diving. They'll be joined by All-Americans Maggie Merriman and Maycey Vieta.

McAfee finished strong in the prelim with scores of 54.60 and 60.75 in the final two rounds, recovering from a missed dive in round 4 and assuring she would finish top 16 to clinch All-America honors. The sophomore's list score improved from 308.55 in the prelim to 344 in the consol. She also moved up five places in the standings after taking 15th in the prelim, again finishing strong with scores of 58.8, 64.4 and 56.7 over the final three rounds.

Wright's prelim list score was 296.30, highlighted by a 58.80 her reverse 2 ½ in round 5. But three scores in the 40s kept her from advancing among the top 16.

Saturday's diving action at NCAAs features prelims at noon ET and the finals session to close the national championship meet is at 6 p.m.
