BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Jordan Rzepka ripped a pair of 90-point dives over the last two rounds of the platform final to win the men's event and all four Purdue women that competed finished among the top six, giving the Boilermakers five more qualifications for the NCAA Championships as the Zone C Diving Championships concluded Saturday.
Maggie Merriman, Daryn Wright, Maycey Vieta and Sophie McAfee have earned the right to represent Purdue women's swimming & diving at NCAAs in Knoxville next week. Merriman and Vieta earned their berths Saturday on platform. McAfee and Wright also earned the opportunity to compete on 3-meter.
Merriman becomes the fifth Purdue diver to be a four-year NCAA Championships qualifier, joining Casey Matthews (2009-10, 2013-14), Joe Cifelli (2016-19), Brandon Loschiavo (2017-19, 2021) and Greg Duncan (2019-22). She posted a career-best list score of 327.20 in the final Saturday, moving into seventh place in team history with a Purdue season-best mark.
Rzepka completed his triple qualification for the second year in a row. He's 6-for-6 in NCAAs qualifications as a Boilermaker and earned the opportunity to compete on 1-meter, 3-meter and platform later this month in Minneapolis. He'll join Sam Bennett, Brady Samuels and Nick Sherman at the national Championship meet as Purdue men's swimming & diving will also be represented by four Boilermakers.
Rzepka won both the prelim and final Saturday, improving on his list score by 26.75 in the final thanks to awards of 92.50 and 91.20 in the final two rounds. Rzepka's list score of 417.80 was his best of the season in an NCAA meet.
Vieta is going to the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive year. The 2023 Big Ten champion was a bronze medalist on the tower at NCAAs as a sophomore in 2021. Merriman (+28.6) and Vieta (+21.4) both enjoyed big improvements on their list scores across the prelim and final Saturday.
Wright posted a season-best score of 309.90 in the prelim Saturday, improving on her 12th best score in team history.
The women's NCAA Championships are set for March 15-18 and the men's NCAA Championships is the following week, March 22-25.
