BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Purdue divers Sam Bennett and Jordan Rzepka finished top eight at the Zone C Championships for the second day in a row, qualifying for the NCAA Championships on 3-meter and earning the right to compete on both springboards at the national championship meet.
After auto-qualifying Thursday on 1-meter, Bennett and Rzepka only needed to finish top 12 Friday to add 3-meter to their schedules. Bennett placed sixth and Rzepka took eighth.
Rzepka improved on his prelim score in the final for the second day in a row, raising his list total by 40 points. Bennett started strong with a list score of 378.45.
Rzepka is now 5-for-5 in event qualifications for NCAAs via Zones. Bennett is 3-for-4 on the springboards as an underclassman. The sophomores will join swimmers Nick Sherman and Brady Samuels at NCAAs, set for March 22-25 in Minneapolis.
The Zone C Championships conclude Saturday with platform diving. The men's event begins at 11 a.m. ET and the women's event follows. The top 11 women and top 12 men qualify for the NCAA Championships. Rzepka has an opportunity to qualify for in all three diving events for the second year in a row.
