ANN ARBOR, Mich. – All six divers scored as the Boilermakers had four of the top 11 finishers on 3-meter and the 200 freestyle relay team moved into fourth place in program history, highlighting Friday's action for Purdue women's swimming & diving at the Big Ten Championships.
Sophie McAfee and Jenna Sonnenberg both qualified for the first career championship finals in a springboard event at Big Tens. They placed fifth and sixth with career-best list scores of 347.30 and 339.70. McAfee moved up to 14th place in team history and is now 5-for-5 in top-10 finishes in her career at the Big Ten Championships.
Hannah Hill, Maggie Love, Kendra Bowen and Kendal Schreder teamed up for a time of 1:30.74 in the 200 free relay, accounting for Purdue's top time in the event since 2013. They're now fourth in team history, the highest ranking for quartet in any of the five relays since 2020.
The Boilermakers racked up 89 points in 3-meter diving, easily their most in any event so far at Big Tens this season. Daryn Wright and Kaitlin Simons joined McAfee and Sonnenberg among the top 11 finishers, with the two freshmen placing first and third in the consolation final. Wright completed her sweep of the springboard consolation finals. It marked the second year in a row that a Purdue freshman accomplished that feat after McAfee also did it last year.
Simons (301.40) posted her first 300-point list score of the season in the consol and in doing so qualified for the NCAA Zone C Championships in the event. Platform specialists Maycey Vieta and Maggie Merriman also scored with top 24 finishes in the prelims of the event.
Masy Folcik led the way in the individual swimming events as a B finalist in the 100 breaststroke. She posted a personal season-best time of 1:01.91 in the prelims. Angelina Rossi and Love also scored in the C final of the 100 breast.
Kendra Bowen (100 free), Lindsay Turner (100 fly) and Madeline Greaves (400 IM) also earned second swims and scored in the C finals of their events Friday. Cecilie Wiuff and Brinly Hardy finished 1-2 in heat 2 of the 100 fly prelims, placing among the top 30 overall in the event while posting season-best times.
Senior Rachel Young was spotlighted as Purdue's Big Ten Sportsmanship honoree before the finals session Friday.
The Big Ten Championships conclude Saturday with prelims at 10 a.m. ET and the finals session at 5 p.m.
