Love, Beavon, Wright All Win Multiple Events in Victory at Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. Maggie Love was victorious in her three individual events and Daryn Wright swept the springboards with a pair of top-10 scores in team history, leading Purdue women's swimming & diving to a 158.5-141.5 dual meet victory at Illinois on Saturday.

The Boilermakers and Fighting Illini each won eight events. Purdue captured the 17-point victory on the strength of 1-2-3 finishes in both diving events as well as the 100 breaststroke. The divers finished 1-2-3-4 on 1-meter and accounted for 35 points in the two springboard events.

Love was victorious in the 100 and 200 breaststroke plus the 200 IM. She leads the team with 10 individual event victories this season and has won multiple events at a meet four times this season. Love and Masy Folcik teamed up for the 1-2 finish in the 100 breast. Folcik made her season debut Saturday, returning from injury.

Wright swept the springboard events for the second time this season. Her team season-best scores were 321.60 on 1-meter and 354.53 on 3-meter, both good for 10th place in team history. Sophie McAfee was the runner-up in both events and registered a personal season-best mark (321.60) on 1-meter.

Kate Beavon swept the distance freestyle events to join Love and Wright among Purdue's multi-event winners. Abby Marcuakaitis won the 100 backstroke and finished as the runner-up in the 200.

The Boilermakers did not surrender a 1-2 finish to Illinois. Meanwhile, Purdue also had a pair of 2-3 finishes in the butterfly events. Cecilie Wiuff and Brinly Hardy went 2-3 in the 100, Madeline Greaves and Lindsay Turner did likewise in the 200.

The Boilermakers registered their second dual meet win of the season. They're back in action Saturday, Jan. 21 when they host Indiana for the Senior Day Meet at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center. Senior Day begins at approximately 9:40 a.m. and the meet gets underway at 10 a.m.
