WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – On senior night, the Boilermakers stormed back in the fourth set with a 6-1 run to seal a 3-1 victory over Michigan with 25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22 decisions. With the win, Purdue's record improves to 19-8, 10-7 in Big Ten play while Michigan falls to 15-12, 6-11 in Big Ten action.
Combined, the seniors and super-seniors were responsible for half of the team's kills, and over two-thirds of the team's digs.
Purdue and Michigan were neck-in-neck with 54 kills apiece and a 53 to 63 Michigan edge in digs, however the Boilermakers out-shined the Wolverines in two key categories: hitting % (.241 vs. .159) and blocks (13.5 vs. 11.5).
Eva Hudson led the team with 15 kills and just one error on 43 attacks. The freshman's .326 efficiency was the ninth time she's hit as efficiently in a match this season, and most efficient during the month of November.
Emma Ellis and Raven Colvin each put down 11 kills, with Colvin securing a season-high-tying nine blocks in the process. Meanwhile, Colvin's .364 attack % (11-3-22) was the most efficient among hitters.
Libero Maddie Schermerhorn totaled 22 digs in the match, 11 of which came in the first set alone. Meanwhile, fellow senior defensive specialist, Ava Torrance had one of the best nights of her career, digging 10 balls, second-most in her career.
Grace Balensiefer came off the bench to produce 36 assists, three block assists and an errorless two kills.
While the match concluded Purdue's regular-season home slate, the Boilermakers have three more matches left. First, Purdue will travel to Nebraska to take on the Huskers on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, a match that will be streamed on Big Ten Network.
