MEDINAH, Ill. – Jocelyn Bruch and Momo Sugiyama carded rounds of 73 (+1) to lead Purdue Women's Golf on the final day of the Illini Invitational. The Boilermakers finished 3-under as a team (289-277-295—861), placing 13th in the annual tournament at Medinah Country Club.
Sugiyama and Danielle du Toit paced Purdue throughout the 54-hole event, tying for 26th at 3-under individually. Both Boilermakers played the par 3s 1-under, ranking sixth in scoring on the short holes. Du Toit made a team-high 11 birdies on Medinah's Course No. 3, while Sugiyama reached double figures as well with 10 birdies of her own.
The Boilermakers' tournament performance was highlighted by their second-round score, firing a 277 (-11) for the second-lowest round in program history. Du Toit's 67 (-5) was a season best by a Boilermaker, while Sugiyama recorded a round in the 60s for the third time in as many tournaments.
Bruch's final-round 73 featured a pair of birdies. Starting on the 12th hole, she birded the par-4 13th to get into red figures before dropping shots on back-to-back holes to wrap up the front nine. The sophomore bounced back, playing the next 10 holes bogey free with a birdie at the par-5 seventh. With her 73, she ended the tournament at 1-over and in a tie for 46th.
Sugiyama matched Bruch with a 73, making back-to-back birdies at No. 18 and No. 1 after starting her final round with seven straight pars. A par on No. 2 kept her at 2-under on the day, but three bogeys coming home dropped her down the leaderboard and erased another under-par round for the Boilermaker.
Du Toit added a 74 in the final round. Her lone birdie came at the par-3 sixth. Ending the tournament in red figures (-3), she secured a 26th-place finish for her best showing of the season.
