Volleyball Sweeps Bowling Green in Season Opener

<br /><br />Freshman outside hitter Eva Hudson lit up the court, notching the first and final kill of the match on her way to leading the team with 18 kills, the most by a Boilermaker freshman since 2018 when All-American Grace Cleveland recorded 19. 

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Purdue volleyball squad opened the 2022 season with a sweep over Bowling Green 25-23, 25-18, 25-23.

As a team, Purdue registered 10 blocks while allowing just one by the Falcons and was more efficient, .263% vs. .152%.

In her first collegiate appearance, freshman outside hitter Eva Hudson recorded a team-leading 18 kills, including the first and final point of the match for the Boilermakers. Moreover, Hudson's 18 kills are the most by a Purdue freshman since 2018 when All-American Grace Cleveland recorded 19. 

Returners also produced career-best performances. Senior outside hitter Madeline Koch recorded a career-best six block assists (previous: 2), Megan Renner set 30 assists (previous: 10) while libero Maddie Schermerhorn recorded 18 digs (previous: 12).

Meanwhile, sophomore middle blocker Raven Colvin secured a team-leading seven block assists and was second in kills with seven (7-3-20).

  • With Bowling Green owning the 16-13 lead, Hudson recorded a back-to-back kill and service ace combo to bring the Boilermakers within one point. Then, the Boilermakers went on a 6-1 run, forcing three attack errors along the way to reclaiming the lead at 22-20.
