Boilermakers End Regular Season with 4-3 Win

<br /><br />After securing four RBI, freshman Tyrina Jones propelled the Boilermaker softball team to victory over Iowa (21-31, 3-20) with a final score of 4-3 to close out regular season play.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After securing four RBI, freshman Tyrina Jones propelled the Boilermaker softball team to victory over Iowa (21-31, 3-20) with a final score of 4-3 to close out regular season play.

Leading the way was senior Alex Echazarreta and Jones. Echazarreta registered two runs, one hit and two walks, scoring the game-winner. Meanwhile, Jones' scored her first career home run in the top of the first inning.

The Boilermakers led the Hawkeyes with four runs, which were recorded by Rachel Becker, Echazarreta and Jones.

Iowa kept Purdue's defense moving after tying up the game in the sixth inning after being scoreless in the fourth and fifth.

After heading into the eighth inning, Purdue broke the 3-3 tie with a double to left field by Jones, scoring Echazarreta with two outs.

Two pitchers saw time in the circle today, led by junior Mo Wimpee (0-0) who pitched 5.2 innings, seven strikeouts and two walks.
