WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Boilermakers came off with a strong 5-1 road victory over Iowa (20-29, 2-18 Big Ten) on Friday night.
This marks the first win over the Hawkeyes since a 6-0 shut out in 2018.
Outfielder Kiara Dillon and shortstop Rachel Becker put the Boilermakers on the map after scoring in the top of the third inning. Meanwhile, Jade Moy singled through the right side with Alex Echazarreta to third base.
The late push by the Boilermakers saw one run and three hits in the top of the sixth inning to secure the victory. Senior Rylee Platusic produced the game-winning run, while Kaeley Hallada advanced to second and Olivia McFadden to third.
Becker led the team with three hits and two runs, while Moy led with three RBI. Freshman Ryen Ross continued her reaching base now with six straight games, the second longest active streak among Boilermakers.
The win was credited to Echazarreta who pitched for 5.1 innings, allowing one run, one error and four strikeouts.
In total, Purdue scored 11 hits, four runs in the game-winning seventh inning.
The Boilermakers will be back tomorrow in Iowa at Pearl Field at 3 p.m. ET, which will be streamed on B1G+.
