WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Led by Pitcher Alex Echazarreta's game-winning two RBI double and four strikeouts in the circle, Purdue softball took down Maryland, 5-2 in the opening game of the series. The victory was followed by five-inning 0-9 decision to close the doubleheader.
The full-team victory saw 11 hits, a Big Ten game-high this season. Meanwhile, Purdue's stunning defensive performance limited Maryland to five hits, a season-low for conference games.
The Boilermakers were perfect from the field, including an SC-Top 10-worthy diving catch by center fielder Kiara Dillon and an out at home in the top of the seventh.
In Game One, the freshmen combined for three runs, seven hits and three RBI.
Right fielder Kyndall Bailey went a perfect 3-3 at the plate in Game One, totaling one run, one RBI, three hits, and a putout in the victory. Meanwhile, fellow freshman and second baseman Jade Moy secured three hits on four at-bats, leading to a run and RBI.
