BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A pair of hard-fought battles for Purdue softball (20-28, 3-13 Big Ten) at Indiana (25-17, 8-9 Big Ten) ended with a pair of 3-6 and 4-7 losses.

The Boilermakers totaled 12 hits over the two games, including four doubles and a pair of home runs in Game Two.

In Game Two, Rachel Becker recorded a home run as the leadoff batter, a lead Purdue held until the bottom of the second. Then, after Indiana added a pair of runs in the fourth, freshman Ryen Ross secured a three-run home run to tie the game up, 4-4. However, the Hoosiers responded with three runs to clinch the game.
Ross' three RBI marked a career-high, while Becker has scored a run in three straight games.

Mo Wimpee (2-3) received the loss, after allowing six hits and three runs over her 2.2 innings in relief.

In Game One, the Boilermakers out-hit the Hoosiers, 8-7, and remained errorless compared to IU's one. Additionally, Purdue's eight runs were the second-most in Big Ten play this season.

After a quiet opening four frames, the Boilermakers began to chip away at Indiana's 4-0 lead with a run in the fifth, and two more added in the sixth, however back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the frame quelled Purdue's efforts.

Three Boilermakers recorded a double in Game One, just one shy of the team's Big Ten game-high. Senior Rylee Platusic and freshmen Ryen Ross and Tyrina Jones each recorded a shot.

Righty Alex Echazarreta notched her 100th strikeout of the season after retiring five batters in the outing before Alexa Pinarski entered in relief to close out the game, earning one strikeout in her three batters faced.

The Boilermakers will be back in action this weekend, after their game tomorrow at No. 20 Notre Dame was cancelled earlier in the day due to scheduled weather. Purdue will take on Rutgers in its final homestand of the year this Friday-Sunday and will honor its seniors on Sunday following the conclusion of the game.
