WEST AFAYETTE, Ind. – On NFCA Day and Military Appreciation Day, the Boilermaker softball team (19-26, 2-11 Big Ten) was shut out by Michigan State (23-24, 3-13 Big Ten) in 0-6 fashion. The result came on a windy day, which saw gusts of wind up to 30 miles per hour.
The Boilermakers were out-hit 1-9 on the day, with Purdue's lone hit coming at the bat of senior catcher Kaeley Hallada, who sent the single up the left side in the fifth inning. Overall, Purdue's one-hitter ties for the second-lowest of the season and the first time in conference play since the opening day of the 2021 season vs. Michigan (2/26/21).
Purdue committed three errors in the game, with two of the three coming in foul territory.
Brenna Smith (2-10) received the loss after tossing 6.1 innings from the circle. The senior allowed just two walks and struck out one batter before being relieved by freshman Kendall Klochack, who closed out the game with one strikeout and no runs allowed.
The Boilermakers will have one more opportunity against the Spartans tomorrow, which was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. ET has been moved up to an 11 a.m. ET start due to impending weather.
