WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's tennis team dropped its Senior Day showdown with No. 61 Wisconsin on Sunday, falling 6-1 at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
Purdue honored its seniors Athell Bennett and Andre Suzanne in a prematch ceremony, thanking the duo for their endless dedication over the years.
The Badgers started the match taking the opening doubles point. Despite Suzanne and Milledge Cossu holding 4-3 lead at No. 3 against Lenard Soha and Mihailo Popovic, the Boilermakers dropped matches at No. 1 and 2, 6-1 and 6-3, respectively.
Down 3-0 for the match, Purdue got on the board thanks to Bennett in his final singles bout of his career. The senior knocked off Jared Pratt at the top of the order to win 7-6(6), 6-3.
All three remaining singles matches went into a decisive third set. Wisconsin clinched the contest with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5 by Robin Parts over Piotr Galus.
