WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Edged by one run, scored in the top of the fifth, the Purdue softball squad (19-21, 2-6 Big Ten) fell to Maryland (21-16, 7-2) with a final score of 1-2.

The Boilermakers and Terrapins were evenly matched at four hits apiece. Purdue's hits were registered by second baseman Jade Moy, pitcher Alex Echazarreta, left fielder Rylee Platusic and designated player/catcher Ryen Ross.

Kiara Dillon recorded Purdue's lone run in the bottom of the first for her 19th run of the year after making base on a hit by pitch.

Echazarreta pitched a complete game, tossing seven strikeouts – the most during a Big Ten game in her career. Furthermore, on the offensive end, the Reston, Virginia native was responsible for Purdue's double that scored Dillon from second. With the RBI, Echazarreta has recorded one in eight of the last nine games.

The pitcher did what she could from the circle, tossing three strikeouts in the final two innings to put the Boilermakers in position for a walk-off to end the game. Jade Moy made base in the bottom of the seventh, singling up the right side and using her speed to narrowly beat out the throw.

Purdue will have a full slate this upcoming week, with a midweek doubleheader at Indiana on Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m. ET. Then the Boilermaker will travel the next day for a three-game series at No. 9 Northwestern, which will run Friday, April 15 through Sunday, April 17. All games will be streamed on B1G+.
