<br /><br />AWENDAW, S.C. – The No. 23 Purdue men's golf team started slow in the opening round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay, sitting in eighth place after 18 holes at Bulls Bay Golf Club.

AWENDAW, S.C. – The No. 23 Purdue men's golf team started slow in the opening round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay, sitting in eighth place after 18 holes at Bulls Bay Golf Club.
 
The Boilermakers shot an opening-round 285 to tie Wisconsin for eighth with 36 holes to play at the difficult Bulls Bay Golf Club in the South Carolina low-country. Despite the slow start, Purdue is just five shots out of third place (East Tennessee State; -8) and is 14 shots behind 18-hole leader South Carolina (17-under par 271).
 
Ole Miss is second at 11-under par and is followed by East Tennessee State (-8), North Carolina State (-7), Missouri and Auburn (-5) and Kentucky (-4).
 
Leading the way for Purdue was sophomore Herman Sekne and senior Joe Weiler, who both fired opening-round scores of 2-under par 70, good for 12th place. The round was Sekne's 10 straight round of even-par or better, the second-longest streak in school history. Weiler has had six straight rounds of even-par or better, the sixth-longest streak in school history.
 
Andrew Farraye recorded an even-par 72, good for a 42nd-place finish after 18 holes. Nick Dentino shot a 1-over par 73 (T-56th) and Cole Bradley finished with a 5-over par 77 (T-82nd). Playing as an individual, Luke Prall recorded a 1-under par 71, good for 26th place.
 
Purdue started slow in round one, with its counting five playing the first three holes in 6-over par. The Boilermakers regrouped and played the last 15 holes in 4-under par as a team.
 
Purdue will tee off round 2 at 9 a.m. ET, off hole No. 1, and be paired with Kentucky and Wisconsin.
