Cox Clinches 5-4 Victory with RBI Triple

<br /><br />After a walk-off victory in Game One of the day vs. Canisius, Purdue took down St. Thomas (Mn.) 5-4, improving to nine victories in the last ten games and a 17-14 record.

TAMPA, Fla. - Triples were the difference maker in Purdue softball's doubleheader at the USF Invite on Day 2. After a walk-off victory in Game One of the day vs. Canisius, Purdue took down St. Thomas (Mn.) 5-4, improving to nine victories in the last ten games and a 17-14 record.

Pinch hitter Emilee Cox recorded the game-winning RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth inning after St. Thomas evened the game up in the top of the frame. Not only was it Cox's first hit of the season, registered the triple with two outs on the board and Ryen Ross on first.

On the game, Purdue was out-hit 9-11 and committed one error in the game. 

Second baseman Jade Moy secured a team-leading two runs and two RBI while Tyrina Jones' 11 putouts at first base are the second-most of her career. Right fielder Rylee Platusic, who scored the walk-off in the previous game, closed the day with a run, two hits and a walk.

Alexa Pinarski (4-6) earned the victory, both starting and finishing the game for a total of 4.0 innings in the circle.

The USF Invite will come to a close tomorrow, when Purdue will look to sweep No. 22 USF in their two-game series. The 11:30 a.m. ET showdown will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
