WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Troy Viola homered and later delivered a sacrifice fly to help the Boilermakers score eight times in the bottom of the fourth, a big inning that powered No. 19 Purdue baseball to an 11-2 victory vs. Dayton on Tuesday at Alexander Field.

At 15-0, the Boilermakers maintained their status as the nation's final undefeated team at the Division I level. They've won 16 consecutive games dating back to 2021, matching the longest win streak in program history. Purdue also won 16 straight from May 1908 through May 1909.

Troy Wansing (2-0) worked five innings of one-run ball in his debut at Alexander Field, opening and closing his outing with 1-2-3 frames. The freshman lefty has a 1.69 ERA over 16 innings to begin his college career.

The Boilermakers scored eight runs in an inning for the second time this season. They've scored five or more runs in a frame five times over the first 15 games, with those big innings accounting for 35 of Purdue's 116 runs (30%) this year.

Cam Thompson drew a bases-loaded walk as the ninth Boilermaker to bat in the fourth inning. That gave him an RBI in eight consecutive games. It's the longest streak by a Purdue player in the last 20 years and is a big reason why the cleanup man leads the Big Ten with 24 RBI. He's also reached base safely in the first 15 games of the year.

Viola has nine extra-base hits and 12 RBI in the last eight games, reaching base safely in 13 straight. The third baseman went deep into the Purdue bullpen past the left field wall to ignite the big inning. He added an RBI double in the sixth inning after Dayton's right fielder never picked up the ball off the bat while playing in the sun field.

Leadoff man Mike Bolton Jr. recorded his Big Ten-leading 10th stolen base of the season while creating the game's first run. He came around to score both times he reached base Tuesday, extending his on-base streak to 16 consecutive games.

Curtis Washington Jr. delivered a two-out RBI double over the left fielder's head to give Purdue a 2-1 lead in the third inning. Even as the Boilermakers' 11th plate appearance of the game, it was their first hit.

CJ Valdez gave Purdue three more productive plate appearances while batting in the 3-hole. He plated Bolton with a sac fly in the first inning and drew a pair of free passes, maintaining his team-leading on-base percentage at .519 for the season.

Kyle Wade left the bases loaded in the sixth inning with a key strikeout for the final out of the frame. Joseph Whitman and Nolan Daniel teamed up to strike out the side in the eighth inning. Carter Doorn and Logan Danzeisen did likewise the following frame to close out the win.

The Boilermakers return to action Thursday when they open a four-game split-site series with Illinois State. The first two games of the weekend are slated to be played at Duffy Bass Field in Normal before the teams travel to Alexander Field for games 3 and 4. First pitch Thursday is set for 6 p.m. ET.
